Orange Street Studio offered a new vision for the central courtyard at this elementary school located in the heart of Laurel Canyon. A swirl pattern draws people towards the courtyard, which acts as the locus of the school. Evoking a rustic woodland atmosphere that reflects the character of the surrounding neighborhood, trees will surround the courtyard to offer shade and boulders will provide seating. Planting areas will be covered with decomposed granite to allow for water infiltration and easy maintenance. Fundraising is currently taking place to realize this vision. Our involvement was voluntary since we believe that good design can enhance lives, and we strive to give back to our community.
