The outdoor spaces of the Lawler residence are conceived as a series of clearly articulated rooms. Behind the entry gate, that reflects the craftsman style of the house, is a foyer defined by lush bamboo “screens”. Pathways slowly reveal one room after another, in which small features such as a quietly trickling fountain or a Buddha statue serve as focal points of contemplation.
