Orange Street Studio offered a new vision for the central courtyard at this public elementary school located in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles. A swirl pattern draws people towards the courtyard, which acts as the locus of the school. Evoking a rustic woodland atmosphere that reflects the character of the surrounding neighborhood, trees encircle the courtyard to offer shade and boulders provide seating.
Planting areas are covered with decomposed granite to allow for water infiltration and easy maintenance. Our involvement was voluntary since we believe that good design can enhance lives, and we strive to give back to our community. |
